Preshal Trust

ON THURSDAY 29th MARCH 2012 MORNA BLACK, JAMIE DOBSON AND ROBERT ROBERTSON VISITED THE PRESHAL TRUST AT THEIR PREMISES AT ABOUKIR STREET IN GOVAN.

WE WERE WELCOMED BY MAY NICHOLSON THE PROJECT MANAGER AND INTRODUCED TO THE VOLUNTEER STAFF AND SOME OF THE MEMBERS RECEIVING HELP.

THE CENTRE IS OPEN 5 DAYS A WEEK AND ON SUNDAY EVENING FOR A PRAYER MEETING.     WE WERE GIVEN A TOUR OF THE CENTRE WHICH IS A SMALL HALL. ABOUT 35 PEOPLE WERE ATTENDING AND VARIOUS ACTIVITIES WERE TAKING PLACE INCLUDING CARD MAKING, SOME PLAYING POOL BUT THE MAJORITY OF ATTENDEES WERE PLAYING BINGO WHICH WAS CARRIED OUT USING A MICROPHONE AND AMPLIFIERS MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO HEAR WHAT WE WERE BEING TOLD.WE VISITED THE KITCHEN WHERE THE CHEF WAS BUSY PREPARING LUNCH WHICH WAS OFFERED TWICE A WEEK AND THIS WAS THE ONLY MEAL SOME OF THE MEMBERS HAD THAT DAY.WE VISITED THE OFFICE WHICH WAS IN A PORTOCABIN NEXT TO THE CENTRE.THIS CONTAINED A COMPUTER AND A VERY WELL ORGANISED FILING  SYSTEM.IT ALSO CONTAINED A DRUM KIT SO THAT ANYONE PRACTISING WOULLD NOT DISTURB THE MAIN CENTRE. WE MET MEMBERS WHO STATED THAT IT HAD CHANGED THEIR LIFE AND APPRECIATED ALL THAT THE TRUST DID.

WE ALL SAT DOWN TO A STEAK PIE DINNER AND EVEN THOUGH THE CHEF WAS BUSY HE MANAGED TO PROVIDE MORNA WITH A LOVELY ALTERNATIVE MEAL.

THE VISIT WAS VERY ENLIGHTENING AND THE ENTHUSIATIC AND DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS ARE TO BE COMMENDED.

A GRANT HAD BEEN OBTAINED FOR A NEW BUILD NEXT TO THE EXISTING LOCATION WITH WORK STARTING LATER THIS YEAR.

October 2012:  The Preshal Trust's activities have now moved to temporary premises to allow the construction of the new building to start.
