The Craftsman 36 Winter Spring 2008 In an historic ceremony stretching back four centuries, the Trades House of Glasgow in October 2007 elected retired solicitor Ian L Dunsmore as its Deacon Convener and retired stockbroker J Michael Low as Collector.
The Craftsman 35 Summer Autumn 2007Many of the initiatives that were mentioned in the last copy of the Craftsman have come to fruition and in this edition you will read of amongst others the successful Modern Apprentice of the Year Award Ceremony and Dinner, the tremendous outturn of the Glasgow Ball which raised a record £55,000 for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice and the Trades House Lecture.
The Craftsman 34 Winter Spring 2007Deacon Convener Malcolm Wishart's first formal duty was to host the 401st Annual Dinner of the Trades House of Glasgow in October 2006; his theme for the evening being Promote and Preserve. The guest speakers, newly elected Lord Advocate Elish Angiolini and Lord Laidlaw of Rothiemay gave speeches that made for a fascinating and enjoyable evening.
Funds raised at this year's Glasgow Ball in May will be used to purchase and equip a brand new specialist patient ambulance for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.
The Craftsman 33 Summer Autumn 2006A staggering sum exceeding £51,500, and still counting, was raised by the Deacon Convener and his Chain Gang at the Trades House Annual Glasgow Ball. Proceeds will go to the Trades House Garden being created at the new West of Scotland Cancer Centre at Gartnavel Hospital - the former Beatson - to be enjoyed for many years by patients, their family and friends.
The Craftsman 32 Winter Spring 2006In his first official role as the newly elected Deacon Convener of the Trades of Glasgow, Graham Goodridge-Cox welcomed HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, as the guest of honour at the Trades House of Glasgow prestigious 400th anniversary dinner last October.
The Craftsman 31 Spring Aummer 2005A day filled with remembrance, music, pageant and celebration, honoured the 400th anniversary of the Trades House of Glasgow on Sunday 6 February 2005. Sharing both the significant founding day and the celebrations were Glasgow City Council and the Merchants House.
The Craftsman 30 Spring 2005Glasgow Cathedral proved the magnificent setting for the Civic Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication conducted by the Very Reverend Dr William J Morris, Minister of the Cathedral, along with the Most Reverend Mario Conti, Archbishop of Glasgow, and the Right Reverend Dr Idris Jones, Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway.
The Craftsman 26 Autumn 2003This year’s Chain Gang, led by Deacon Convener Stewart Wright, has achieved its target of raising £30,000 for the charity Columba 1400 which, working in partnership with the Greater Easterhouse Development Company, seeks to provide support facilities for young people from the east end of the city.
The Craftsman 25 Spring 2003The main fundraising event by this year’s Chain Gang was the Glasgow Ball on 10th May in the Hilton Hotel. Proceeds going to the charity Columba 1400, which provides character development courses on Skye, will benefit people from the Easterhouse area of Glasgow.
