Granny Gibbs - Robertson Silver spade for Summer 2010

Let Glasgow Flourish Awards 2011

During the summer of 2010, some 207 businesses were visited and judged by members of the Incorporation of Gardeners, rather more than in previous years, and 52 received awards in recognition of their outstanding efforts.

Glasgow’s renowned Parks and Open Spaces are mirrored by many businesses throughout the City with floral displays around their properties including restaurants, outdoor cafés, bars and business premises.

The 'Let Glasgow Flourish' Awards were held in the Trades Hall on Thursday 28th April, the Awards being presented by Bailie Catherine McMaster.

'Let Glasgow Flourish' recognises new displays, along with those that continue to improve year on year, with the best display being awarded the prestigious Robertson Silver Spade.

This year the winner is Granny Gibbs Bar, at 1305 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow. The garden displays provide a wonderful sight throughout the year to all those passing by, as well as to the patrons of Granny Gibbs.

Deacon Anthony MacIver of the Incorporation of Gardeners said “I am delighted that many businesses continue to recognise the value of a colourful exterior to their premises, and I appreciate that, in many cases, staff invest considerable time and skills to provide wonderful displays”.

Many of the previous winners are again receiving awards today, as they continue to improve their displays over the years.

The Incorporation of Gardeners supports numerous gardening initiatives throughout Glasgow including allotments, horticultural apprentices and gardening lecture programmes.
