An Evening with the Gardeners

An Evening with the Gardeners

Friday 13th March 2009

It's a little known fact that the Trades Hall was built on the site of an ancient orchard, one of very many that existed around the country in bygone days.  The Commonwealth Orchard is one of various projects that hope to see a revival of our orchards and save many of our native varieties of apple.   A large number of Members and friends enjoyed hearing more about this in a talk by John Hancox, currently of the Wee Orchard project at the Glasgow Botanics.  Isla Dunbar of Cairn O' Mhor Winery in Errol further entertained the gathering telling about winemaking in Scotland, and in particular the elderberry orchard at Errol and letting everyone have a taste of her wines.

A cheese and wine supper finished off a most enjoyable Members' evening.
