Provand's Lordship Garden

Provand's Lordship

Links with early Craftsmen at St. Nicholas Garden

In the 15th century there was an orchard and herb garden at the Provand's Lordship, Glasgow's oldest house, which was built in 1471 to house the Chaplain at the nearby St. Nicholas's Hospital.  The herbs were grown in this "physic" garden for the use of healing at the Hospital.  There were strong links with the members of the Incorporation of Gardeners of the time who tended the city's lands.  It is therefore an exciting privilege for the Gardeners of today to be involved with and help fund the re-planting and upgrading of this garden which was re-created in 1995.

Sandra Ewiri, Manager of St. Mungo Museum and the Provand's Lordship, provides some instruction on planting to Deacon Gordon Miller.
