Gardeners' Annual Garden Visit
Dawyck Botanic Garden, near Peebles
Saturday 16th May 2009
To follow on from last year's visit to Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, this year's outing goes to the Borders to visit Dawyck, which is part of the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. It is truly one of the world's finest arboreta. It was formerly part of the Dawyck Estate and has a magic all of its own. Set in the scenic Borders landscape, this delightful woodland renowned for its seasonal displays, with an abundance of exotic and native plants, provides a breathtaking backdrop of colour throughout the year. One of the most photographed parts of the Garden is the Azalea Terrace, which in late spring greets the visitor with an outstanding display of colour. To read more about the garden, log on to www.rbge.org.uk
There will be the usual bus setting off from the Trades Hall in the morning with complimentary refreshment by the Deacon en route and a fun quiz to test your horticultural knowledge. We will be taken on a conducted tour of the garden by one of the guides at Dawyck. Lunch may be bought at the cafe at the new visitors centre or you can bring your own picnic. We will be back in Glasgow by the early evening.
