Highgrove Project

In 2001 our Honorary Member, Prince Charles, the Duke of Rothesay, took ownership of the Stone Pillars for the Highgrove Garden. The project was masterminded by Past Deacon Jack Steele who has contacts with the Royal family and was instrumental in persuading HRH Prince Charles to become an Honorary member of the Masons when he joined in 1999.

Sandra Gunn, the then Dean of the Faculty of Construction at the Glasgow College of Building and Printing, designed the two pillars and Deacon Jack arranged for them to be created by the trainee stonemasons at the college.  These trainee stonemasons then went to Highgrove and ereceted the pillars on either side of the entry to the walled Garden at the end of the spring flower walkway.

HRH Prince Charles spent a lot of time talking with the young stonemasons as well as having his photograph taken with them.
