#Craftex2025 Celebrates Creativity and Innovation as Winners Announced in Glasgow

Inspirations from Japan and Ancient Tartan

The winners of #Craftex 2025 have been announced, as the exhibition showcasing the best of Glasgow’s students work opened to the public at the Trades Hall, Glasgow.

Evy Craig, a student at Glasgow Kelvin College, was awarded the Deacon Convener’s Design Prize for her meticulously crafted dress made from recycled jeans and incorporating fabric from her mother’s old bedspread.

Evy said, “My piece was influenced by Japanese symbolism, incorporating cheery blossoms and traditional wave design.  Clothing should be cherished , and we must embrace reusing materials to create something beautiful when we can.”

Craig Watson, who is finishing his HND at Glasgow Kelvin College, won the Glencairn Crystal Award with his stunning contemporary take on traditional tartan.

Craig said, “Winning this award is an incredible end to my time at Kelvin College!  My suit combines an interpretation of ancient tartan with faux leather elements inspired by Alexander McQueen and ‘90s Chanel’.

The V&A Dundee will be showcasing the award winners’ work later in the year.

Gold Medal winner, Robin Frowley from the City of Glasgow College, sculptural chair was inspired by nature, form and function.

Paul Davidson, MD at Glencairn Crystal, the exhibition’s main sponsors, said:

“We’re delighted to support Craftex and its vital role in showcasing young people’s creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship - helping to open doors to exciting futures for the next generation”

Craftex will be returning next year.....dates to follow.
