Weaving his way to the top..

Kenneth Dalgleish was elected Deacon Convener of the Trades House of Glasgow and 3rd citizen of Glasgow by fellow members on 14th October 2020

Kenneth is an Ex Deacon of the Incorporation of Weavers, one of Trades House’s 14 Crafts, after joining them in 2010.

The Incorporation, which celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2014 maintains its links with the modern textile industry by taking a keen interest in the support of promising young people likely to make a contribution to this, important Scottish industry. To this end it funds a number of grants, scholarships and prizes for textile students at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow School of Art and Langside and Cardonald Colleges, Glasgow, and also sponsors the Sma Shots Weavers Cottage, in Paisley.

The 14 Crafts are ancient trade organisations, most of which were formed in the 17

thCentury, that gave support to workers in rapidly growing industries in Glasgow such as baking, shoemaking, cooperage, carpentry and metalwork. Today they are independent charities giving assistance, educational support and funding to their own areas of interest. Over £750,000 is awarded annually to deserving individuals and organisations by the Crafts and Trades House
