Trades House was honoured to sponsor the Glasgow Times Community Champions Awards, which illustrate the enormous commitment and good-will of the people of Glasgow to help others in their community.

Late DC Tom McInally was a judge and presented some of the Awards on Friday evening. Tom said; "The Community Champion Awards highlight some of this city’s most inspirational people, which in turn increases our awareness and will help us reach more individuals and groups that might benefit the most from our support."

Glasgow Trades House Angling Club (THAC) Report - 2019

The THAC enjoyed another successful season with members enjoying 2 outings.

We started off in late May when 7 THAC anglers fished with 4 from the Nine Trades of Dundee.

This is the 3rd year we have fished with our friends from Dundee and it was good to see a few more Glasgow anglers join the fray this year. We all caught fish at the excellent Frandy Fishery, and given the disparity in numbers agreed not to add a competitive element to the day. We all enjoyed an excellent meal at the Riverside Pub in Dunblane, where we were joined by ex Deacon Convener Roy Scott.

A Baker heads Trades House of Glasgow

Bruce Reidford was elected Deacon Convener of the Trades House of Glasgow and 3rd citizen of Glasgow by fellow members

yesterday (9 October 2019).

Bruce worked for Tunnocks, the family-run baker based in Uddingston, as Company Secretary for 30 years, retiring earlier in 2019. He is Ex Deacon of the Incorporation of Bakers, one of Trades House’s 14 Crafts, after joining them in 2009. The Bakers have close links with the Glasgow colleges, assisting with educational events and awards, and also give money to various charity organisations.

The 14 Crafts are ancient trade organisations, most of which were formed in the 17thCentury, that gave support to workers in rapidly growing industries in Glasgow such as baking, shoemaking, cooperage, carpentry and metalwork. Today they are independent charities giving assistance, educational support and funding to their own areas of interest. Over £750,000 is awarded annually to deserving individuals and organisations by the Crafts and Trades House.
